# Concepts

> Seven ideas that explain how Cadence works.

Read this once and the rest of the docs will make sense.

## Company

A **company** is your business in Cadence. It has its own people, bots, chats and usage, kept fully separate from every other company. One person can belong to several companies with one sign-in.

See [Companies and people](https://docs.usecadence.gg/teams/companies-and-people.md).

## Space

A **space** is an area inside a company with its own bots, routines, memory and settings. Every company starts with one. Add more to keep work apart.

See [Spaces](https://docs.usecadence.gg/teams/spaces.md).

## Bot

A **bot** is an AI teammate. It has instructions, instruction files, memory, a model and a computer. You talk to it in its chat; it can also talk to customers through channels and to other bots.

See [Bots](https://docs.usecadence.gg/bots/overview.md).

## Run

A **run** is one stretch of work by a bot. Your message starts a run; so does a routine, a webhook or a message from a channel. During a run the bot reads its instructions, files and memory, then thinks and uses tools until it is done or needs you. You can send more messages to steer a run, or stop it.

## Tool

A **tool** is something a bot can do: browse a page, run a command, save a memory, send a message, create a routine. Bots come with built-in tools, and [integrations](https://docs.usecadence.gg/work/integrations.md) add more.

## Approval

An **approval** is a pause where a bot asks a person before a tool call that matters, such as sending an email from a connected app. You choose what needs asking and what is always allowed.

See [Approvals](https://docs.usecadence.gg/work/approvals.md).

## Routine

A **routine** is a saved instruction a bot runs by itself, on a schedule, on a webhook, on a message, or when something changes.

See [Routines](https://docs.usecadence.gg/work/routines.md).

## How it fits together

```text theme={null}
Company
 └─ Space
     ├─ Bot ── instructions, files, memory, model, computer
     │    ├─ Chat ── runs ── tools ── approvals
     │    └─ Routines ── start runs on their own
     └─ Group chat (several bots)
```
