# Companies and people

> Your company, your team, and who can do what.

Everything in Cadence belongs to a **company**. A company has its own people, [spaces](https://docs.usecadence.gg/teams/spaces.md), bots and usage, kept completely separate from every other company.

## Your company

When you sign up, you give your company name. Cadence creates your company and its main space with that name, and makes you the **Owner**.

If you join through an invite, you join the inviting company instead and are not asked for a company name.

## Roles

| Role | Can |
| - | - |
| **Owner** | Everything, including managing other owners and billing. |
| **Admin** | Invite people, change roles and remove people, except owners. |
| **Member** | Work with the bots in their spaces. |

A company always keeps at least one owner. Only an owner can invite another owner or change or remove one.

## Invite people

Owners and admins invite from **Settings**, then **People**.

1. Under **Invite**, enter the person's email (for example `name@company.com`).
2. Choose **Member** or **Admin**.
3. If your company has more than one space, tick the spaces they should join. Otherwise they join the main space.
4. Send the invite.

Cadence gives you an invite link. If email is set up, it is also emailed to them. The link works **once** and expires after **7 days**. Click **Copy invite link** to send it yourself.

Pending invites appear under **Invited**. Click **Revoke** to cancel one.

## Accept an invite

The invite link opens a **Join** page showing the company name.

* **New to Cadence:** enter your name and a password, then click **Create account and join**. Your email is confirmed by the invite.
* **Already have an account:** sign in and click **Join**. The account's email must match the invite.

## One person, several companies

You can belong to more than one company with the same sign-in, for example your own business and a client's. Each company's spaces appear in your space list named **Company · Space**. Pick one to work there.

Each company stays separate: its bots, chats, memory and settings never mix with another's. You manage a company's people and spaces from inside that company.

> [!NOTE]
>
> You cannot create a second company from inside the app. A new company comes from signing up, or on a self-hosted server from the operator's `create-organization` command. See [Deploy with Docker Compose](https://docs.usecadence.gg/self-hosting/docker-compose.md#add-a-company).

## Change roles and remove people

In **People**, owners and admins can change a person's role, add them to or remove them from spaces, or remove them from the company. You cannot remove yourself.
